Play Make Write Think

Player Narrative Reflection

The controlling idea of my narrative is that games are similar to our lifes, and learning how to play games are a way to improve our perspective. Through this narrative, I further understood my point of view toward games, and I shared my way of living in a medium that I can better organize my thoughts. Different from my literary narrative, I incorporated more description of my experience. Those are the pictures when I free-wrote about games or hockey. My structure starts with an introduction to “my game”, and then I described one experience out and reasoned another point with logic, followed with a conclusion. There isn’t many new ideas. All of the ideas came from the free-writing exercise, I simply rearranged into my essay.

Side Quest 4

Here is a picture of all the things in my bag:

  1. A Macbook computer
  2. A facemask
  3. Two notebooks (One for my previous internship, another for my classes )
  4. One pencil
  5. A wallet
  6. AirPods

It is funny that I have a NYU bag instead of an Emory one. I got it from the NYU bookstore. Because I went to a high school in New Jersey and NYC is just a 40 minutes drive. I like to take notes during classes or doing homework, so it reflects that part of my personality. Moreover, I am a “semi-Apple fan” that is why all of my electronic products are from Apple. As many can tell, I carry little items in my bag since I can easy loose things everyday in my life. There isn’t many challenges while I was doing this project since I just laid out all of my stuff. Yet, it is a little bit embarrassing to have only one bag and it is printed with a NYU logo.

Side Quest 3

I begin the game with the view of a porch. Unlike the many other games, Gone home doesn’t contain violence, yet it gave players a lot of freedom. With freedom, this game immediately gave me a hard time on how to probe the continuous steps. I had to spend 15 minutes trying to find the key on the bottom of a duck. This experience of probing provided a preview of the remaining plots. As I move around the first and second floor, I discovered that Katie is a rebellious child when she was younger and even her sister, Sam, called her a weirdo.

As I probe from rooms to rooms, I discovered more and more about this family. The father, Terry has some nasty secrets, Sam seems to change a lot as she gets older. The journal would give me a lot of information into the plot and I really like this type of plot progression method.

Side Quest 2

When I looked at the quest laying on my bed, my first reaction was it would be funny if I could combine a duck feet on my feet. Then, I realized that there are some technical difficulties for the duck’s posture to be exactly the same. So I approached it differently: adhering my feet into a duck’s body. Since I am not good at photo editing at all, getting rid of the background of two pictures is difficult. I had to consult my friend who is an expert in this particular field for assistant, and he literally taught me step by step. The picture conveys a symbol for protection. When the duck lands, it would always land on its feet. Even though no one would be silly enough to land on his or her head, many individuals do such things when they encounter difficulties or obstacles. They devout so much that they test things with their lives. Although I give my who appreciation to their zealous attitudes, I would not believe that everyone should do that with every obstacle they encounter. Bold is different from bravery.

I chose this image because it contradicts with classic social standards. For instance, the big eye and plummy lips represents the current judgement of beauty. Since I am a firm believer to uphold personal insights into society standards, I think it can represent me really well with this badge. There isn’t many difficulties except I had to learn distortion with photoshop. But overall the process was smooth.

Literary Narrative Reflection

I have never thought that I can reimagine my English learning career. It is very interesting for me to extrapolate all of my experiences and combine them together. The free writing helped with bring back all of my memories and some details like the looks of my middle school English teacher. When I look back at it, it was an interesting experience with struggle. There wasn’t any elements surprising or new, yet the combination made me realized how did my English skills improve. I think other people would be interested with the Quichotte book since it is published last year.
