Play Make Write Think

Reflecting on My Pokémon Player Narrative

The idea of being thrown into a new environment without any idea of what you need to can always be troublesome. Through my journey into videogames, I started by playing games without help from the game itself until I get trapped by a ten year old girl. Within trying to pass through my rival’s obstacle in Pokémon Sapphire, I started to learn about balance, problem-solving, determination, applying information, and strategy. In my player narrative, I discuss how I went about beating May on route 110.

Creating my self-portrait by revealing my typical daily bag showed me what I carried about and what I have learned about through the years. I include numerous self-care items such as chapstick and eye drops because I have learned it is beneficial to have them with you. I realized that I am also stubborn about some unnecessary things by having earbuds and headphones in my bag and bringing a notebook despite having a phone that allows me to store as many notes as possible. Revealing what is in my bag portrays my tendency to keep clean and refreshed by having chapstick, hand sanitizer, face wipes, and shoe wipes. It also shows my favoritism towards specific items like my DoorDash face mask and New York Yankees hat. Additionally, I get to show my randomness by showcasing my laptop, which is covered in stickers; I have always wanted to do this, and having a new laptop for college was the perfect opportunity. The only choices I had to make to create this image were to include items in my gym bag and daily bag because I use both almost every day and organize my things to show them all correctly. Nothing was challenging in creating this image because I had all these items in my bag already, and I only had to get things that I was currently using. Cataloging the stuff in my bag is a form of writing; however, it is not as elegant as you would think. I think it is a form of writing because you have to put your voice into the hand either way; even though showing what is in your bag only allows you to express a fragment of yourself, I still consider it is writing because you can show who you are through what you think is essential to carry with you.

Live Thoughts of “Gone Home’s” Beginning

I am beginning to play through the game, “Gone Home,” from the request of my English professor, David Morgen. https://eng101f20.davidmorgen.org/quests/side-quests/side-quest-3-liveblogging-gone-home/. From what I can, the opening phone call makes the main character out to be a young girl who got to be on her own for the first time in a faraway place and has newfound confidence in her self by showing her trying to be independent, thus not wanting her mom to pick her up from the airport. However, the grim music and moody lighting of the start give a quick indication of the game genre. Upon arrival, the dark atmosphere, combined with the slow walking pace and heavy rainfall, gives off a mysterious and grim tone to the game. The note on the door with the names mom dad crossed out to show the main character’s oddities as she searches for her family and piece together whatever she possibly can.

Reflecting on my Path of Reading and Writing

Initially, from events outside my control, I despised the constraints and limits pushed on me when I read and wrote, thus leading me to not enjoy the subjects nearly as much as my other academics. However, additional events outside my control guided me towards a new path of writing and reading. I have learned that not all restrictions are forced, and finding your way of individualizing the experience makes the process far more enjoyable. For example, writing my literacy narrative involves me profoundly thinking about my journey through the reading and writing subjects that I got lost in my creative process. From this essay, I learned I have a lot of love for creating an exciting and thought-provoking piece of literature that I think my one of the topic sentences will be considered probably the most exciting sentence of my entire narrative.

The Influence of Americanism

The Influence of americanism

The world is an ever-changing place due to the rapid lifestyle that is widely prevalent. Trends and technology are constantly shoved in the face of people every hour of every day, primarily American based. Influences worldwide persuade us to visit a website, purchase the new thing, or any other way to get their product to cross your mind. I decided to combine the Eiffel tower and McDonald’s’ golden arches because of globalization affecting cultures; this particular photo combination was quite amusing to think about because I believe the idea of putting Mcdonalds branding on grande structures, such as the Eiffel tower, have come across the minds of their advertising heads. I knew I wanted to create a combophoto on globalization, but deciding how to convey my image was rather tricky. McDonald’s was on my mind, so I knew I wanted to include it, and I decided upon the Eiffel tower because the build allowed me to fit a street sign of everyone’s “favorite” restaurant on top; thus, my photocombo created, trying to convey the influence of American globalization on individual culture was produced.

Avatar

I have always seen myself as a goofball, leader type. Thus, my attraction to Sokka, from “Avatar the Last Airbender,” begun. Sokka is a person trying to be a leader in an era where he is put at an obvious disadvantage; however, he overcomes it, despite not bending any elements. Despite his hardships, he grows to become a leader, who still tries to make people laugh at his dumb jokes. I used Sokka’s image as part of my avatar because I see a lot of myself in him.
Additionally, I added the New York Yankees hat because I grew up around baseball, especially the Yankees organization. Furthermore, I added the mask to show my current situation of coronavirus. Even though Sokka has a smile on his face, it is concealed by the required mask and necessary social distancing. I faced difficulties deciding how I wanted to depict myself to people, whether to show my goofier self or my more academic and formal self. I chose the former.
